Ahab’s Big Picture Projects
MISSION
Our world has a lot of communal and environmental infrastructure in place, but the means and desire to maintain it is lacking. Our projects create safe and healthy access to watersheds, address small town development hurdles surrounding abandoned infrastructure, and throughout the process, incubate the means to educate the local community to be the project stewards far into the future.
VISION
Using the ongoing story of our mascot, Captain Ahab, to inspire cognitive curiosity and flexibility leading towards self-actualization, self-transcendence, and belonging within our local, regional, and global communities.

FRANKLIN COUNTY
Whitewater WORKS – Downloadable PDF (coming soon)
Summary – A series of community-driven projects inspired by the whitewater release of dam #5 on the Deerfield River.
Current advisors to the project include, but are not limited to: FRCOG, the Town of Monroe, Monroe Historic Society, Yankee Atomic, Great River Hydro, Massachusetts Office of Outdoor Recreation, the Velomont, Vermont Huts, the Town of Charlemont, UMass, National Grid, DCR, Thomas Dambo (Trolls), Crab Apple Whitewater, the Deerfield River Paddle Guard, Team River Runner, NRS, Massachusetts Freemasonry, and MASS MoCA.

Honorable Mentions – Our crews have been removing unnatural materials from the Deerfield River watershed since 2001!
BERKSHIRE COUNTY
North Adams Water Trails – Downloadable PDF
Summary – A community-led concept to modify up to six low-head dams into accessible whitewater features on the Hoosic River in North Adams, MA.
Status – Currently in a USACE feasibility study projected to be announced in August 2027.
